Project Overview
The design strategy for the redevelopment of the Val-de-Grâce Hospital site in Paris is rooted in the concept of urban connectivity. Located within an integrated urban environment, the site offers a valuable opportunity to leverage its proximity to major street networks, public transport hubs, and the city's green infrastructure.
Due to the presence of preserved historic buildings on the site and its location within a context of height restrictions, the design focuses on multi-level underground connectivity. This underground network serves multiple purposes, including facilitating access to the site from outside, enabling seamless circulation between buildings, and providing a continuous public pedestrian route across the area.
The project introduces a functional zoning strategy surrounding the hospital’s main structure that is aligned with the urban fabric. The site is organised into four key zones: a museum, a green public space, a hospital school and residential buildings. Each zone is designed to complement the surrounding area and reinforce the site's role as a connected and inclusive urban node.
